Preparations Underway for the Second Annual
Chicago Latino Book & Family Festival

Festival promoting literacy and culture to be held in November 11-12 at Sportsman's Park.

Los Angeles, California, October 17, 2000 -- Actor Edward James Olmos, actor and community activist, will present the second Annual Chicago Latino Book & Family Festival, a weekend event that promotes literacy, culture and business in a fun environment for the whole family. The festival will be held Saturday, November 11, and Sunday, November 12, at Sportsman’s Park, 3301 South Laramie Avenue, Cicero, Illinois. The event, which is co-hosted by Tele Guía de Chicago, will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free, courtesy of Target Stores; parking is $3.

The festival will feature authors, educational workshops, book signings, live entertainment, children’s events and food. Hundreds of exhibitors featuring a wide variety of products, services and activities make this event the first and ideal pre-holiday shopping opportunity for the Chicago area.

Last year, authors Ana Castillo, Luis J. Rodriguez, Ramiro Burr, Gregory Michie and Miguel Escobar presented at the festival, and Edward James Olmos discussed his book Americanos. "This event represents more than a consumer expo. It is a defining event that unites both the American public with Hispanic communities," said Edward James Olmos.

"The Latino Book & Family Festival is the nation’s largest touring Latino consumer expo with more combined attendees, exhibitors and media coverage than any other Latino consumer event," said Mario Cobián, President of Pochteca EventWorks and Sponsorship Agency of the festival. "It’s a great way to build mindshare and marketshare in the burgeoning Latino market."

The Latino Book & Family Festival was launched in 1997 in Los Angeles to promote literacy, culture and education and to provide people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to celebrate the diversity of the multicultural communities in the United States in a festival atmosphere. The 1999 Los Angeles festival drew 48,500 visitors, with 704 exhibitors, making it the largest Latino consumer expo in the United States. Today, the festival is hosted several major Latino markets across the U.S., including Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago and San Bernardino/Riverside; adding New York in 2001.

The property/event is represented and produced in part by Pochteca EventWorks, a diversified Marketing/Sponsorship, Event Management & Entertainment Company. Festival sponsorship and exhibitor
